A Grade Eight pupil drowned while swimming with friends in Chimoi River in Matete Sub-County, Kakamega County.
The deceased was a pupil at Mutenyo Comprehensive School. The incident was reported on Wednesday.
Police officers who visited the scene in the Chimoi area established that the pupil had been swimming with friends when he drowned.
Members of the public helped retrieve the boy’s body from the river.
The body was taken to St. Martha Hospital Mortuary in Chimoi for preservation pending a postmortem examination.
Police have continued with investigations into the drowning incident.
Elsewhere, a 12-year-old boy sustained serious injuries after he was electrocuted by a live electricity wire while playing on the balcony of his family’s house in Nairobi’s Savanna area.
The incident occurred on August 9, police said.
The boy reportedly accidentally touched a live main electricity supply wire that was hanging loosely near the balcony.
He was rushed to Nairobi West Hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition.
Police officers from Buruburu visited the scene as part of investigations and recovered a partially burnt piece of clothing the boy was wearing at the time of the incident.
The clothing was preserved as an exhibit as police continued investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the live wire came to be hanging near the residential balcony.
Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man drowned after falling into a flooded quarry in Marimu Village, Nyandarua County, on Wednesday morning.
The deceased, identified as David Njoroge Karanja, was found lying face down in the shallow water at the quarry.
The incident was reported at about 8:30am by Makumbi Area Chief Stephen Kariuki, prompting officers from Geta Police Station and detectives from Kipipiri Sub-County to visit the scene.
The scene was processed and documented, with officers reporting that there were no visible injuries on the body.
The body was retrieved and taken to JM Kariuki County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
Police in Cheptais, Bungoma County, have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified boy was found floating in the Malakisi River.
The body was discovered on August 10, 2026, in Kimama Central Village, Chemondi Sub-location, Chemondi Location.
According to police, a 17-year-old boy had gone to the river to take a bath when he spotted the body floating in the water.
Police officers were alerted and proceeded to the scene, where they recovered the body.
The remains were removed and taken to the Bungoma Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation pending identification and autopsy.
