A Kilifi court has sentenced a 43-year-old primary school teacher to 10 years in prison for having an affair with a 16-year-old pupil. The court acquitted Gibson Ziro Shida of defilement, but sentenced him for abusing his authority as a teacher by engaging in a love relationship with his student. Magistrate Ivy Wasike said teachers should be role models and condemned those who exploit their authority to pursue relationships with students.
