Cpl Henry Okello Omondi Ojudi, 44, was killed by two masked attackers who raided his home in Bondo, Siaya County, in the early hours of Monday.
The motive of the murder was not immediately known, but the family suspect domestic disputes could be the reasons behind the same.
The team of detectives was expected to participate in a postmortem on the body on Tuesday as others pursue the gang behind what they termed as a targeted murder.
The deceased’s father had also been attacked and threatened before he mysteriously went missing. The matter is under investigation, a family member said as they demanded justice in both cases.
The police squad from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations talked to the family members as part of the probe into the macabre murder.
The deceased officer was attacked at his home in Got Nyapong Village at about 2:30am.
He was attached to the GSU headquarters. Police were alerted at about 4:30am, prompting a team of officers to visit the scene.
Preliminary investigations established that the two attackers, who had their faces covered and were armed with a panga and a sword, broke into the house and accessed the bedroom where Ojudi was sleeping with his wife.
The assailants reportedly stabbed him twice in the chest before dragging him outside the house, where they further cut him on the head and shoulders.
His wife was not injured during the attack. The attackers reportedly fled into the darkness immediately after the assault.
Police said nothing was stolen from the house, and the motive for the attack remained unknown.
The scene was processed and documented before the officer’s body was moved to Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Tension remained high in the village as locals demanded justice to the family of the deceased officer.
In Nairobi, colleagues described him as a hard working officer and vowed to give his family the needed justice.
And a 64-year-old man was hacked to death by two men after leaving Kiritiri Market with his second wife in Mbeere South, Embu County, police said.
The deceased, identified as Joseph Njeru Ngari, a
resident of Gichiche Sub-location, was found lying in a thicket at Kamutuanjiru
Village in the early hours of Monday, August 10, 2026.
Police were alerted at about 2:30am, and officers from Kiritiri Police Station proceeded to the scene.
Preliminary investigations established that Njeru had left Kiritiri Market at about 8pm on Sunday accompanied by his second wife, on his motorcycle.
The couple reportedly stopped at the scene after Njeru intended to meet a person known to him before they proceeded to their home in Kerwa Village, Gichiche.
According to his wife, one man emerged from a thicket, and Njeru walked about 10 metres away from her to speak to him.
A second man later joined them, after which she heard the men exchanging words in low tones.
She reportedly moved closer to find out what was happening but, before she could reach them, one of the men disappeared into the darkness.
The second man allegedly took Njeru’s motorcycle and fled, leaving him lying on the ground with deep cut wounds.
Police established that the deceased had suffered two visible deep cuts across the face, on the left eye and nose area.
Crime Scene Investigation officers photographed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Embu Level 5 Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the motive of the killing, identify the two suspects and trace the stolen motorcycle.
The police believe the killers were targeting the motorcycle.
