Police are investigating an incident where a truck
driver was found dead inside his lorry at Bonje Shell in Samburu Subcounty,
Kwale county, in an incident police are treating as a sudden death.
The deceased, identified as Stephen Muinde, was estimated to be about 50 years old.
According to police, the incident was reported on Saturday, August 8, 2026, after a security officer at a petrol station alerted the transport manager of the management of the lorry that the driver had been found unresponsive inside the trailer.
The driver was reportedly found leaning on the steering wheel of the lorry and did not respond when called or touched.
Police officers visited the scene and documented it.
A slight bruise was observed on the left side of the deceased’s rib area.
The body was moved to the Coast General Hospital mortuary in Mombasa pending a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Meanwhile, a total of 16 people were killed in separate road accidents in the country on Saturday night.
The victims included eight riders, six pedestrians, a driver and a passenger, police said.
Police said at least 30 people were injured in the accidents reported, and they included 11 pillion passengers, six pedestrians, six riders, four passengers and two drivers.
The injured were rushed to various hospitals for medical attention.
Fatal accidents have been on the rise amid efforts to address the menace.
Elsewhere, a 16-year-old girl was found dead in a maize plantation in Lessos, Trans Nzoia county, in a suspected murder incident.
She was a student at Imani Polytechnic and was discovered in a maize plantation in Bidii Sub-Location, Bidii Location, Lessos Village, on Friday, August 7, 2026.
Police said the girl had visible injuries on her neck and signs of strangulation.
Her mother reported the incident at Lessos Police Post before police visited the scene and launched investigations.
Scene of Crime officers from Kitale and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kwanza processed the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the location where the body was found was a secondary scene, with the suspected primary scene located about 30 metres away.
Police recovered a rope at the scene, which is suspected to have been used in the killing.
She lived with her paternal grandmother and was last seen alive on Thursday evening.
Her body was moved to the Wamalwa Kijana Teaching
and Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination as
investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death continue.
