A police officer, a bodaboda rider and a key linkman arrested in the murder of clinical psychologist Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso will appear in court on Monday.
Detectives seek to detain the three to enable them to complete investigations into the murder and seek to arrest the remaining suspected accomplices.
A motorcycle, two four-wheel-drive cars and a police pistol used in the murder were recovered.
Detectives said two cops wanted over the murder of clinical psychologist Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso could be hiding in Nakuru.
Detectives pursuing them have, in the meantime, told the two to surrender for grilling and avoid further escalation.
The two officers remained the subject of a police manhunt on Sunday.
Their colleague from Karinde Police Station was formally arrested as a key suspect in the murder.
He is the one who is alleged to have pulled the trigger on Dr Mutiso on July 29 in the Upper Hill area, killing her, police said.
The two had formally sought permission from their places of work to go to their rural homes for medical reasons.
They claimed their children were sick. This was two days after the murder of Dr Mutiso, police said.
They later switched off their mobile phones and went underground.
Four other suspects, including a mother and her two children and a land broker, are in custody over the murder.
Fresh details emerging from investigations into the murder of Dr Mutiso indicate that the three suspects were allegedly promised Sh1.5 million to execute the killing.
They had been paid Sh100,000 as a down payment.
Investigators believe each of the three was to receive Sh500,000 upon completion of the assignment, with part of the money allegedly paid before Dr Mutiso was killed.
The balance had not been paid and was to be raised from the sale of a Range Rover which has since been seized by police.
The car was among four cars that had been stolen from Dr Mutiso’s Mlolongo home in February 2026 during a raid staged using forged documents, police say.
The murder has been linked to a 20 acre piece of land in Mlolongo area. The matter on the land is under probe.
Investigators have also recovered another Toyota
Prado believed to be among two vehicles allegedly used to block the taxi in
which Dr Mutiso was travelling to work.
The latest vehicle was recovered in Kisii County.
Senior security officers from the Central Region, led by David Loronyokwe, accompanied by officers from Kikuyu Police Station, visited several police posts as they followed leads on the suspects’ whereabouts.
At Thogoto Police Station, the officers searched the house where the main suspect had been residing and seized several items and records believed to be relevant to the investigation.
The team later proceeded to Karinde Police Station, where another key suspect, Kimoi, had previously served.
Investigators are also seeking firearm registers from Dagoretti, Nderi, Karinde and Thogoto police stations as they seek to establish the movement and chain of custody of the firearm believed to have been used in the murder.
The weapon is now in the possession of investigators and is believed to have been issued to Inspector Sang.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kimoi allegedly used the firearm to shoot and kill Dr Mutiso.
Investigators believe the murder was planned and involved several individuals, including a suspect who allegedly kept close surveillance on Dr Mutiso before the killing.
Speaking during a detailed briefing, DCI Director Mohamed Amin said the investigation had established a chain of planning, financing, surveillance and execution that culminated in the fatal shooting of Dr Mutiso in Upper Hill on July 29, 2026.
According to the DCI, the killing was carried out with military-style precision, but investigators responded with an equally intensive operation grounded in forensic science, intelligence gathering, digital evidence and inter-agency collaboration.
Investigators said Dr Mutiso had requested an Uber ride on the morning of July 29 from her residence at Tanga Heights Apartments on Bamboo Lane off Riara Road.
She was headed to the Africa Institute of Mental and Brain Health located at Mawensi Garden off Matumbato Road in Upper Hill.
Her driver, told detectives that at approximately 9:23 a.m., their vehicle encountered a black Toyota Prado that had partially blocked the road in the Mawensi area.
As he slowed down, gunshots rang out from the rear left side of the vehicle where Dr Mutiso was seated.
The driver said he saw a man armed with a pistol firing directly at his passenger. He accelerated past the obstruction and drove straight to Kenyatta National Hospital in an attempt to save her life.
Dr Mutiso was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A post-mortem examination established that she had
sustained three gunshot wounds.
The DCI said officers from the local command
responded immediately to both the crime scene and the hospital.
Detectives recovered two spent cartridges from the
scene, while a bullet head was later retrieved during the post-mortem
examination.
All exhibits were submitted to the National Police Service Forensic Laboratory for ballistic and forensic analysis.
Amin said the investigation immediately shifted into an intelligence-led and forensic-led operation involving CCTV analysis, vehicle tracking, digital evidence examination and coordinated surveillance activities.
The DCI said forensic analysis and CCTV examination quickly identified two individuals believed to have played central roles in the operation.
They were arrested.
Investigators allege that one of the suspects served as a
principal organiser of the operation.
He is accused of driving a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado registration KDH 600A, which was allegedly used to block the Uber vehicle moments before the shooting.
Detectives say he coordinated logistics, facilitated the movement of the execution team and played a key organisational role in the conspiracy.
The investigation identified two Toyota Prado vehicles used during the operation.
According to the DCI, the registered owner confirmed that both vehicles had been hired to the suspect on July 27, 2026, and returned on July 30, 2026, a day after the murder.
Tracking data allegedly placed both vehicles at the scene during the time of the attack.
The other suspect has been identified as the motorcycle rider who allegedly ferried the gunman to the scene.
The motorcycle has since been impounded, and investigators say forensic evidence places him at the crime scene.
