Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has received 10 Kajiado MCAs and an aspirant into the party as he intensifies his grassroots mobilisation drive ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The latest entrants include elected MCAs from UDA and ODM, as well as a ward representative aspirant, in a move that Gachagua said demonstrated growing support for the party in Kajiado County.
Gachagua announced the defections on Monday, saying the latest group had joined the DCP after consulting their supporters and receiving what he described as clear instructions from the ground.
“The journey to 100 per cent DCP in Kajiado is almost complete,” Gachagua said.
He said the decision by the MCAs to join the party was an indication that the DCP was gaining ground in the county, adding that the latest entrants were themselves part of the grassroots support base.
“I never asked the MCAs to listen to the ground; they are the ground themselves,” he said.
The latest entrants are Isaac Kiresian, Minority Leader of the Kajiado County Assembly and MCA for Magadi Ward; Joseph Torris of Ewuaso Oonkidongi Ward; Edward Lemomo of Kuku Ward; Caroline Ndeti, a nominated MCA representing Kaputei North Ward; Titus Matheka of Ongata Rongai Ward; John Maina Mutiga of Nkaimurunya Ward; Nais Naisiae Karia, a nominated MCA; Marush Kisemei of Oloosirkon Sholinko Ward; and Mbiriri Mwaura of Ngong Ward.
Peter Tirishe, a Mosiro Ward aspirant, also joined the party.
Gachagua said the leaders had informed him that their supporters wanted them to join a political formation that they believed would listen to their concerns.
“They have told me that the ground is green. They have informed me that they have received clear instructions from their people to join the party that cares and listens to the aspirations of Kenyans,” he said.
The latest move comes days after Gachagua received another group of MCAs into the DCP as the former Deputy President seeks to expand the party's presence beyond its traditional political base.
The successive defections are part of a wider grassroots mobilisation campaign by Gachagua, who has been touring different parts of the country as he builds the DCP ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gachagua said the party's growth was continuing as it prepares for the elections, which are scheduled for August 10, 2027.
“Our party continues to grow and expand significantly, with just one year to go before 10th August 2027,” he said.
The latest entrants were accompanied by DCP Narok Township Ward MCA Douglas Masikonde, Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo and Kajiado Senator Kanar Seki.
Gachagua said the new members had joined the party after responding to what he described as the voice of the people adding that the future is green.
