Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has hit back at leaders questioning his experience and suitability to contest the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna argued that those who claim to have the experience and know-how have failed to solve Kenya’s problems.
Speaking during a church service at the ACK Cathedral in Mumias Town on Sunday, Sifuna said Kenya was facing problems across multiple sectors and that younger leaders understood the challenges confronting ordinary citizens.
“They are saying we are youthful leaders with no experience,” Sifuna said.
He questioned what kind of experience was required to recognise and address problems facing the country, using the sugar industry and sugar imports as an example.
“I just want to ask politely, what experience do you need to know you cannot kill all sugar mills to give your friends permits to import sugar?” he said.
Sifuna said the Linda Mwananchi movement was not seeking political confrontation with its rivals but wanted to offer Kenyans an alternative leadership option ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We come in peace, we have no fights with anyone,” he said.
He challenged Kenyans to give younger leaders an opportunity to run the country, arguing that leaders who have presented themselves as experienced and knowledgeable had contributed to the challenges facing the country.
“Those calling themselves experts and with experience are the ones who have put us in this hole, why can’t Kenyans give the young a chance to see if they can change the country?” Sifuna posed.
Sifuna’s remarks come as speculation intensifies over his political ambitions and his role within the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has been conducting grassroots mobilisation across the country ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He was accompanied at the church service by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Vihiga Senator Godffrey Osotsi, Kisii Senator Richard Onyoka, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Kabuchai MP Joseph Kalasinga and former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati.
The leaders are using the Linda Mwananchi platform to expand their political network in Western Kenya, a region expected to play a critical role in the 2027 presidential contest.
After the church service, the team embarked on political engagements in Mumias West Constituency, with the leaders scheduled to interact with residents in Mumias Town.
At noon, the Linda Mwananchi caravan was scheduled to move to Navakholo Constituency for an engagement at Navakholo Market.
The leaders would then proceed to Malava Constituency at 2pm before heading to Lugari Constituency at 4pm. The tour was expected to culminate in Lumakanda.
The Kakamega tour is part of an intensified grassroots mobilisation campaign by Linda Mwananchi as the movement seeks to consolidate support and expand its political influence ahead of the August 2027 elections.
The movement has in recent months presented itself as a people-centred political platform, with its leaders holding rallies and community engagements in different parts of the country.
