Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has taken his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) message to Makueni, urging residents of Ukambani to reject community-based politics and instead support the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking to grassroots leaders in Wote, Makueni County, Ruku called on residents to embrace what he described as national politics, arguing that development should be driven by leadership rather than political party affiliations.

“It is time we moved away from ethnic political parties. If every community formed its own party, it would be detrimental to national unity. Development is driven by good leadership, not by the political party one belongs to,” Ruku said.

The CS praised President William Ruto’s administration and described UDA as a national political party with a countrywide outlook and development agenda.

He said the Kenya Kwanza administration had pursued economic empowerment programmes targeting communities across the country, urging residents to support the government’s agenda.

The CS urged residents to look beyond political party identities when making their political choices, saying development should remain a key consideration.

He also criticised what he termed politically motivated campaigns against the Kenya Kwanza administration, urging opposition leaders to abandon such efforts.

Ruku maintained that the Ruto administration was serving Kenyans regardless of how they voted in the 2022 general election.

He used the forum to highlight government development projects in the region, including the Thwake Dam project, which he said would play a major role in unlocking Makueni’s agricultural potential.

According to Ruku, the government has allocated Sh9.7 billion towards completion of the dam by 2026.

He said the project would expand irrigation and support agricultural activities in Makueni County once completed.

The Cabinet Secretary highlighted the proposed National Infrastructure Fund, which is projected to mobilise Sh3.5 trillion for investments in information technology infrastructure, roads, water projects and last-mile electricity connectivity across the country.

Ruku also addressed political developments in the Mt Kenya East region, saying the region’s pursuit of greater political and economic independence had begun following resolutions by the Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders.

He called on former CSs Justin Muturi and Peter Munya to work with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in championing the interests of Mt Kenya East.

“It is time for Mt Kenya East to move forward with political and economic independence without looking back. When you aim an arrow at President William Ruto, you are also targeting our son, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, who comes from Mt Kenya East,” Ruku said.

Ruku also defended his brief tenure as Mbeere North MP, saying he had lobbied for nearly 70 kilometres of roads and other development projects during his time in Parliament.

Away from politics, the CS directed chief executive officers of state corporations and government agencies to fast-track the migration of their institutions to the Human Resource Information System (HRIS).

He said implementation of the government’s HRIS directives was mandatory and warned that administrative action would be taken against accounting officers and CEOs who failed to facilitate the onboarding process.

“All Cabinet directives must be implemented. Any CEO who fails to onboard their institution onto HRIS will face administrative action,” he said.
