ACCIDENT/SCREENGRABSeveral university students are feared dead following a road accident along the Awasi–Ahero highway while travelling from Mombasa to Kisumu.
In a statement, Siaya Governor James Orengo said the students were on their way to pay their last respects to Elvis Otieno, also known as "Beast", when the journey ended in tragedy.
Orengo said he was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of the students, describing the incident as "a journey of solidarity that ended in unimaginable grief."
He conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, friends and the student fraternity affected by the loss.
"To the grieving families, friends, and the entire TUM comrade fraternity: my thoughts and prayers are with you during this dark hour," Orengo said.
He added: "May God grant you strength, and may their young souls rest in eternal power."
Principal Secretary for Internal Security Raymond Omollo also mourned the victims, saying he was deeply saddened by the accident involving the bus carrying students to Kisumu for the funeral of their colleague.
Omollo conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, the Technical University of Mombasa fraternity and everyone affected by the tragedy, while wishing those injured a speedy and full recovery.
Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Wycliffe Oparanya likewise expressed his condolences, describing the crash as a devastating tragedy.
Oparanya extended his sympathies to the victims' families, the TUM fraternity and all those affected, and wished the injured a quick recovery.
