Fire that resulted in the power outage affecting parts of the Western Region/KENYA POWER/X
Thousands of electricity customers across parts of western Kenya have been affected by a widespread power outage following a fire at Musaga Substation in Kakamega.
In a customer alert issued on Friday at 6:30 pm, Kenya Power said the fire disrupted electricity supply to customers in Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya and parts of Vihiga counties.
The utility company said it had begun efforts to restore power by diverting electricity through alternative supply lines while work continues to address the incident at the affected substation.
Kenya Power acknowledged the impact of the outage on residents and businesses, saying it was aware of the inconvenience caused.
“We understand the disruption this is causing to homes and businesses,” the company said.
It added that restoration would be carried out in phases as technical teams worked to stabilise the network.
“We are re-routing power through alternative supply lines to restore electricity to customers progressively as the incident at the substation is addressed,” Kenya Power said.
The company did not indicate the cause of the fire.
Kenya Power apologised to affected customers, saying, “We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused.”
The utility urged patience as efforts to restore electricity continue across the affected counties.
