Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has been inducted by the Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders as the Mt Kenya community spokesperson during a ceremony held at the Njuri Ncheke shrine in Nchirû, Meru.

The elders also endorsed Kindiki as the community's bridge to the national government and President William Ruto's running mate in the next General Election on August 7, 2027.

According to Kindiki, elders are custodians of custom, culture and family values, guiding society in navigating complex social, economic, cultural and political issues.

Kindiki said he had answered the summons of the Njuri Ncheke Supreme Council of Ameru Elders.

He said about 20,000 elders drawn from Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties attended what he described as a "once in a generation traditional ceremony."

The Deputy President said the gathering prayed "for the leadership of Kenya now and in the future, for peace, stability and prosperity of our nation."

He added that the elders pledged to engage traditional leaders from across the country to promote unity.

"The elders pledged to reach out to other traditional leaders and elders from the length and breadth of this country to build bridges of friendship and to strengthen national unity and reconciliation," Kindiki said.

The ceremony brought together thousands of elders in a traditional gathering focused on leadership, national cohesion and the role of elders in promoting peace and reconciliation.
