Kenya today commemorates the 28th anniversary of the August 7, 1998, U.S. Embassy bombing in Nairobi, one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in the country’s history. The al-Qaeda truck bomb killed 213 people, injured more than 5,000, and caused the collapse of the neighbouring Ufundi Cooperative House. A simultaneous attack targeted the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, making the twin bombings a defining moment in East Africa’s fight against terrorism.
