Cosmos Limited has strengthened its digital infrastructure and regulatory compliance through an integrated monitoring, energy management and digital validation platform implemented with Schneider Electric Kenya.
The upgrade is expected to improve operational visibility, data integrity and compliance readiness at the pharmaceutical manufacturer.
The project brings together systems designed to monitor critical manufacturing environments, track energy use and support regulatory requirements.
Cosmos sought a centralised digital platform to unify monitoring and simplify compliance processes across operations, maintenance and quality teams.
The company said its initial monitoring tools lacked the stability, integration and performance required for a high-compliance pharmaceutical facility.
It subsequently partnered with Schneider Electric Kenya to modernise its digital systems and align them with its operational, quality and sustainability objectives.
Jacob Malowa, Manager in charge of Engineering and Projects at Cosmos, said the upgrade had also provided the company with greater insight into its energy consumption.
“Beyond improving compliance, the platform has opened our eyes to how and where we consume energy. This transparency is helping us control costs, plan better, and support our long-term sustainability goals as a manufacturer,” Malowa said.
Schneider Electric assessed the facility before implementing an integrated digital infrastructure to support Cosmos' operations.
The improvements included a stabilised and optimised Building Management System, which provides real-time monitoring and control of critical manufacturing environments.
The company also introduced EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert to provide detailed energy visibility.
The system enables Cosmos to identify cost drivers, understand consumption trends and support sustainability planning.
A Pharma Compliance Package was also implemented to provide secure and traceable data, audit-ready reporting and greater visibility for quality and validation teams.
Ifeanyi Odoh, Country President of Schneider Electric East Africa, said the project was designed to create a digital foundation for the manufacturer's wider operations.
“Cosmos’ objective was not simply to install software but to establish a digital foundation that supports operations, maintenance, energy performance, and compliance,” Odoh said.
He said validated and traceable data was essential in pharmaceutical production.
“In pharmaceutical production, validated and traceable data is a requirement that must be met and the solutions exist to ensure our customers remain compliant to the regulations and to the times,” Odoh said.
The new digital ecosystem has improved reliability and strengthened control over critical processes, while simplifying compliance oversight.
Cosmos teams now have greater visibility of operations and access to more responsive tools.
The upgrade has also improved operational efficiency by providing real-time information that allows faster adjustments and reduces manual monitoring.
The company has gained improved system reliability and reduced downtime through enhanced maintenance insights.
Energy analytics are also helping identify inefficiencies and guide cost-saving initiatives.
The system further supports regulatory readiness through validated, traceable and audit-ready data.
Odoh said the project demonstrated how manufacturers can use technology to strengthen their operations.
