The anti-graft agency said the case involves the award of contracts valued at Sh17,484,484A county chief officer and five contractors are set to be arraigned at the Kitui Law Courts Thursday afternoon after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested them in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged conflict of interest and procurement irregularities.

In a statement on Thursday, EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had approved charges against nine individuals following the completion of investigations.
The proposed charges include alleged conflict of interest, abuse of office, money laundering, acquisition of proceeds of crime and engaging in corrupt procurement practices.
According to the commission, the six suspects were arrested on Thursday and were due to be arraigned before the Kitui Law Courts later in the afternoon.
EACC said the remaining three suspects are still at large and are believed to have gone into hiding.
The commission directed them to report to its Lower Eastern Regional Office in Machakos or the nearest EACC office for processing.
Mohamud said the commission remains committed to safeguarding public resources and ensuring that all persons are held accountable.
He urged state organs and public entities to strengthen compliance with the Conflict of Interest Act, 2025 by putting in place effective measures for the declaration, management and prevention of conflicts of interest among public officers.
