A two-year-old boy died after reportedly falling into an open well while fetching water in Kakamega County, police said.
The incident, reported by the child's grandmother on Monday, occurred at Kalenda Village in Kabras West Sub-County, where the child is reported to have slipped.
Police visited the scene and said the child was retrieved from the water but was pronounced dead.
Police said the body had no visible external injuries and it was moved to the Kakamega Orthopaedic Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The incident is under investigation.
In a separate incident, a 30-year-old fisherman was found dead after he is believed to have drowned in Lake Victoria at Kamser Seka Beach in Rachuonyo North Sub-County, Homa Bay County.
The deceased was identified as John Onyango Obuyah.
Preliminary investigations indicate Obuyah left his home at about 1 pm for a fishing expedition on the lake.
His body was later found floating in the water by fellow fishermen, who alerted the authorities, who retrieved the body.
The body was taken to Gendia Adventist Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing, with police treating the case as a suspected drowning pending the outcome of the post-mortem examination.
Elsewhere, a man died after violence broke out during what police described as an alleged arson incident on a sugarcane plantation in Muhoroni Sub-County, Kisumu County.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening at Mariwa Village in Kabar East Sub-location.
According to police, a group of people allegedly set fire to a sugarcane plantation belonging to a local resident.
Police said a confrontation broke out as villagers responded to the incident, during which Obonyo Ndege, a resident of Olasi Village, sustained serious injuries.
He was rushed to Pivot Private Hospital in Masogo for treatment but died while receiving medical care.
The body was later moved to Ahero Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police are investigating the reported arson and the fatal assault, with the motive and the identities of those involved yet to be established, police said.
