CCTV footage captures the deadly confrontation that left Kennedy Ng'eno deadCCTV footage has emerged showing the final moments of Kennedy Ng'eno, a 30-year-old motorist who was fatally stabbed during a road rage confrontation on Mombasa Road near Nyayo Stadium.
The footage, timestamped 4.44 am on Saturday, August 1, captures events minutes after two vehicles were involved in a traffic accident.
It shows a group of men confronting the driver of an online taxi by the roadside before the confrontation escalates into a physical fight.
Ng'eno is seen among the men pushing and shoving with the taxi driver.
At one point, Ng'eno appears to snatch the driver's mobile phone as the latter records the confrontation before walking away with it.
The taxi driver, seemingly enraged, pursues him but is knocked to the ground by another man.
Moments later, he gets up and charges towards Ng'eno, and the two grapple.
Two men, believed to be Ng'eno's friends, intervene and separate them.
During the confrontation, one of the men is stabbed.
Ng'eno then walks a short distance away and appears to lift his shirt, as though checking an injury to his abdomen.
The suspect follows him and is seen repeatedly swinging his right hand, allegedly stabbing him several times.
Ng'eno takes a few steps before collapsing on the roadside.
Minutes later, he is seen being carried to a white vehicle parked nearby and rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The fatal confrontation followed a traffic accident in which Ng'eno's vehicle was reportedly struck from behind by the taxi.
A postmortem conducted on Tuesday established that he died from multiple stab wounds.
"After the autopsy, the doctor gave us the report that showed that Ken's life was ended by a stab to his heart, which penetrated his heart. There were around five stab wounds and many more on his hand," a family member said.
Police have since arrested the taxi driver and he was due to be arraigned in court on Wednesday as investigations continue.
According to the family, Ng'eno had travelled from his rural home in Roret, Kericho county, to Nairobi on Friday.
He first visited his cousin in Uthiru before they went out for drinks. Later that night, they headed to Pipeline in Nairobi's Eastlands area with friends travelling in a separate vehicle.
A relative said that after the collision, the taxi driver walked to the front of Ng'eno's vehicle and struck the windscreen.
During the ensuing scuffle, the suspect allegedly retrieved a sharp object from his vehicle and used it to fatally stab Ng'eno and injure one of his friends.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing.
