Heavy traffic was reported along the Mai Mahiu Escarpment Road on Tuesday after a crash involving two trucks and a private car partially blocked the highway.
The Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association said one of the trucks had completely blocked the road following the collision.
"There has been an accident along the Mai Mahiu escarpment involving 2 trucks and a private [car]. One of the trucks has completely blocked the road," the association said in an alert.
The incident caused a major traffic snarl-up as motorists experienced delays along the busy route.
Reports from the scene also indicated that several people were believed to be trapped inside the wreckage.
However, authorities had not immediately confirmed the reports or provided details on the number of casualties or injuries.
