The government has released Sh2.4 billion for the June 2026 cycle of the Inua Jamii cash transfer programme, benefiting more than 1.2 million older persons and people with severe disabilities.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection said in a notice dated August 4 that 1,213,156 beneficiaries enrolled in the programme will each receive Sh2,000 for the June payment cycle.
The funds, amounting to Sh2,426,312,000, were released through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs as the government continues to support vulnerable households through its social protection programmes.
According to Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs Principal Secretary Joseph Motari, the programme targets some of the country's most vulnerable citizens, including older persons aged 70 years and above and persons with severe disabilities.
“Payment commenced yesterday, August 3, with each beneficiary set to receive Sh2,000 covering the June cycle,” the Motari said.
The Inua Jamii programme is a key component of the government's social protection strategy, with cash transfers intended to help beneficiaries meet basic needs while cushioning vulnerable households against poverty and economic hardships.
The ministry said the programme remains focused on improving the welfare and livelihoods of vulnerable members of society by providing regular financial assistance.
The latest disbursement comes as the government continues to expand social protection interventions targeting vulnerable groups across the country.
The cash transfers are paid directly to registered beneficiaries, providing them with financial support to meet household expenses and other basic needs.
The government has previously identified social protection as an important tool in reducing poverty and improving the resilience of vulnerable populations, particularly older persons and people living with severe disabilities.
Motari said the latest release demonstrated the government's continued commitment to supporting vulnerable Kenyans through social assistance programmes.
The Inua Jamii programme covers several categories of vulnerable people, including older persons, persons with severe disabilities and other households facing significant socio-economic challenges.
The latest payment is expected to provide relief to beneficiaries and their families, particularly amid rising household costs.
The ministry urged beneficiaries to access their payments through the established channels and continue complying with programme requirements.
