State House serves food to staff and visitors on most days but observes a strict dry fast every Wednesday, South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro has claimed.

Speaking on a July 31 podcast hosted by comedian and MC Dr Ofweneke, the second-term MP said the practice has been part of State House culture since President William Ruto assumed office in 2022.

Osoro described Ruto as a generous host who is keen on ensuring guests are served meals whenever they visit him for meetings or other engagements.

According to the MP, the President has maintained the habit since his tenure as Deputy President.

"By the way, if you needed a meal as a Member of Parliament in the last Parliament, and you wanted some place to hang out, Harambee Annex," Osoro said.

He recalled that the Deputy President's office became a popular meeting point for lawmakers because of the hospitality extended there.

"There used to be a big boardroom and a buffet there that can serve up to 100 people at any given time," he said.

"I used to walk to Harambee Annex, and you know as a Member of Parliament, you are not denied access. And in fact if you don't eat under William Ruto, he really takes offence."

Osoro said that whenever meetings coincided with lunchtime, Ruto would pause the discussions and ensure everyone present had been served before proceedings resumed.

"And then he would go to all the waiting lounges to pick any guest that's there to join him for lunch except for Wednesday when they do fasting," he said.

The MP claimed Wednesdays are treated differently, with only breakfast being served before the fast begins.

"Pure dry fasting, in State House and even then, except for breakfast. They have tea for breakfast but the entire day, there's no meal."

Since taking office in 2022, Ruto has regularly hosted evangelical gatherings at State House and frequently incorporated prayer and scripture into official events, reflecting the prominent role faith plays in his public leadership.

Political observers have also noted that his consistent emphasis on religion has reinforced his image among sections of his political support base while projecting moral leadership.
