Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja Keroche /HANDOUTNakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja Keroche has hinted at the possibility of leaving the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Keroche emphasised her next political move will be determined by her supporters.
Speaking during a meeting in Nakuru County, the senator said she was not tied to any political party and would consider moving if her supporters advised her on the direction to take.
However, she did not name the party she would join should she decide to quit UDA.
"There is nowhere I have been tied to stay by anybody. What you will tell me is where we will go. Where you will tell me is where I will go," Keroche told her supporters.
She reminded the gathering that it was voters who encouraged her to join UDA, saying the same supporters would guide her if they felt it was time to move to another political outfit.
"Aren’t you the people who told me to join UDA? If you now tell me to leave and you show me where to go, I will not object. Are we in agreement?" she said.
Keroche's remarks come amid growing political speculation over her future after she became increasingly critical of the direction of UDA and some of its leadership structures.
The senator has previously blamed the party's declining popularity on what she described as the influence of a powerful clique around President William Ruto.
She has also linked UDA's poor performance in recent by-elections, including the Ol Kalou contest, to internal issues within the party.
Keroche warned that the party risked losing support because of what she termed arrogance and chest-thumping by some leaders close to the President.
"UDA was the most popular party in the country but due to the mess caused by this small circle, many leaders don't want to be associated with it as we head to the elections," she said during a previous meeting.
The senator's political position has also come under scrutiny following reports of looming leadership changes in the Senate, where she could be removed from the position of Deputy Majority Leader amid claims of political realignments and allegations of links to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Despite the speculation surrounding her next move, Keroche remains a UDA senator representing Nakuru County.
Her criticism of the party
and comments on its internal challenges have fueled debate about a possible
political realignment, but she has not announced any defection or confirmed
links to any other party, including the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
