Former Chief Justice David Maraga has criticised Parliament for failing to hold the Executive accountable. In a statement, Maraga said a Parliament that cannot effectively check the Executive ceases to function as a true legislature and instead becomes a rubber stamp. He defended his year 2020 advisory opinion calling for the dissolution of Parliament, saying it was justified by its failure to perform its constitutional oversight role. Maraga added that Kenyans deserve representatives who serve the people, not State House.
