KeNHA/ FILEThe Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary partial closure of a section of Mombasa Road (A8) at the Highway Educational Complex near Bellevue to facilitate the construction of a box culvert.
In a notice on Monday, KeNHA said the closure will affect both carriageways from Monday, August 10, 2026, to Monday, September 14.
The authority said the affected section will be closed interchangeably, with motorists using the remaining two open lanes throughout the construction period to minimise traffic disruptions.
"This closure is to allow for the construction of a box culvert on this road section," KeNHA said.
Motorists have been advised to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals deployed at the site.
KeNHA said normal traffic operations along the affected section of Mombasa Road will resume once the construction works are completed.
"All Motorists using this road section will utilise the unclosed two lanes, which shall be provided interchangeably during the construction period to minimise traffic interruptions," KeNHA said.
"Motorists are advised to follow the proposed management plan as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site. Normal traffic operations on the road will be restored upon completion of the works."
On July 17, KeNHA announced that motorists using the Emali-Isineti (A5) Road will experience temporary traffic disruption for nearly three weeks over the partial closure of a section of the highway to allow for the installation of a drainage structure.
The authority said the works will facilitate the installation of a culvert across the carriageway at an existing natural drainage channel.
To minimise disruption, traffic will be diverted through a temporary route constructed alongside the affected section of the road.
According to KeNHA, the diversion will be about 100 metres long, with vehicles using it on an alternating single-lane basis throughout the construction period.
The authority has urged motorists to exercise caution while approaching the area and to strictly follow traffic management measures that will be in place during the works.
"Motorists are, therefore, advised to exercise caution, adhere to traffic signs, and cooperate with the police officers and traffic marshals on site," the notice states.
The temporary closure forms part of routine road infrastructure works aimed at improving drainage along the highway and ensuring the road remains safe and passable, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
