Detectives have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of his wife in Sabwani Village, Kiminini Sub-County, Trans Nzoia county.
The suspect was arrested after police responded to a report of the incident at the couple's home.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers from Waitaluk Police Station, working jointly with detectives from DCI Kiminini and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel, visited the scene following a report made by the area Assistant Chief.
Upon arrival, the officers found the lifeless body lying on a bed inside the house.
Police said the deceased had sustained multiple visible injuries, including a dislocated right shoulder, a deep cut above the right eyebrow, and injuries to her right leg.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fatal assault followed a domestic dispute between the suspect and the deceased, although detectives say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Crime Scene Investigation officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Cherangany Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The man is being held at Waitaluk Police Station as detectives finalise investigations ahead of his arraignment in court.
The incident comes hot on the heels of a High Court verdict in Kisumu which sentenced a 30-year-old man to death after he pleaded guilty to murdering his wife, seven-year-old son and two relatives in a brutal attack that shocked residents of Muhoroni Subcounty.
Justice Joe Omido handed down the sentence to Shem Akuku Otieno, also known as "Daddy", after finding that the killings were aggravated by the relationship between the accused and the victims and the circumstances under which the offences were committed.
The murders occurred on February 24, 2024, at Milenya Village in Muhoroni Sub-county, Kisumu county.
The gruesome killings stunned the close-knit rural community, with residents expressing shock that four members of the same family had lost their lives in a single incident.
The tragedy drew widespread public attention and left relatives and neighbours struggling to come to terms with the devastating loss.
Court records showed that although the accused initially denied the four counts of murder, he later changed his plea and admitted responsibility for the killings.
Before entering the guilty plea, the Court ordered a psychiatric assessment, which found him mentally fit to stand trial. He was subsequently convicted on his own plea of guilty.
