The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over investigations into the reported abduction of Mlolongo businessman Jimmy Mutava, amid growing questions surrounding his disappearance.
In a statement, the DCI said detectives from its Anti-Abduction Unit are leading investigations after a report was made at Mlolongo Police Station on July 27, 2026.
"The Directorate of Criminal Investigations wishes to inform the public that detectives from the DCI Anti-Abduction Unit have taken over investigations into the reported alleged abduction of Jimmy Mutava," the agency said.
The DCI said detectives are pursuing several persons of interest as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the reported incident.

The agency assured the public that updates would be issued as the probe progresses.
"The DCI will keep the public informed of significant developments as the investigations progress," it said.
The appeal comes amid fresh concerns over Mutava’s disappearance after CCTV footage reportedly captured his final known movements before he was allegedly abducted outside an entertainment establishment in Mlolongo Town.
The footage, aired by a local television station on Saturday, August 1, 2026, shows Mutava arriving at the venue in the evening after being dropped off by a white vehicle.
The recordings reportedly show him meeting two individuals at different times while inside the premises. According to the footage, one of the people who joined him was believed to be a senior police officer, followed later by a woman who sat with them.
Mutava was later captured using two mobile phones before leaving the establishment while still on a call. Witnesses have alleged that masked and armed men confronted him outside the venue moments later.
Family members and friends have raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, alleging that police officers may have been involved in the incident.
However, the claims remain unconfirmed, with detectives continuing investigations to establish what happened.
The family said they were still awaiting answers as they sought clarity over the sequence of events captured on surveillance cameras.
