Nyandarua Senator John Methu has vowed that his team will remain vigilant during the 2027 General Election to ensure votes cast by their supporters are protected and accurately reflected in the final results.
Methu said Kenyans should not leave the protection of their votes to chance, arguing that the experience of the recent Ol Kalou by-election had demonstrated the importance of vigilance throughout the electoral process.
Speaking while reacting to remarks by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, Methu said voters would turn up on election day, cast their ballots and remain engaged until the process was completed.
“Jana niliona Murkomen anasema ati tukipiga kura tuende nyumbani. Siku ya kupiga kura, tutapiga kura na tulinde,” Methu said.
While speaking on Friday, Murkomen warned that police will not tolerate groups hovering around polling stations in the name of protecting votes.
He said security at voting centres remains the responsibility of the National Police Service.
“There is no part of Kenya where we will allow an ordinary citizen or a politician to take up a club claiming they are going to protect themselves, guard a polling station, or guard a politician. They are all goons! And Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has already started work,” Murkomen said.
Addressing a rally in Nanyuki town, the senator said the message was not about causing disruption but ensuring that voters remain alert and follow the counting and tallying process to safeguard the integrity of their ballots.
Methu said the approach would be similar to what the DCP team did during the Ol Kalou by-election, where supporters were mobilised to closely monitor the voting and counting process.
He said the experience had strengthened their resolve to remain involved in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 polls.
“Just like we did during the Ol Kalou by-election, where we protected our votes, we will do the same in 2027,” Methu said.
DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua and several other leaders were present during the event.
The group also addressed a rally at Naromoru town in Nyeri.
"This marks the beginning of a new chapter, one dedicated to reclaiming our nation," he said.
His remarks come as political parties and leaders increasingly turn their attention to the 2027 General Election, with mobilisation and preparations gaining momentum across the country.
