A garbage truck driver died after his vehicle came into contact with a high-voltage power line at Kangoki Dumpsite in Thika West Sub-County, Kiambu County.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning and involved the 42-year-old driver, Joseph Mwangi Muchiri.
Police officers and a Kenya Power emergency team visited the scene and found the lorry in contact with overhead high-voltage electricity lines.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver had already offloaded waste and was driving away when the truck’s raised dump bed struck the power line.
He was electrocuted and succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to Thika Level Five Hospital by Good Samaritans.
Crime scene investigators documented and processed the scene, while the Kenya Power emergency team isolated the electricity supply to ensure the area was safe.
The body was moved to General Kago Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. Police are continuing with investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, police in Mwala Sub-County, Machakos County, have launched investigations after a 69-year-old man was found dead in a neighbour’s compound under unclear circumstances.
The incident was reported on Thursday afternoon, police said.
Patrick Nyamai Nyumu was found lying dead in a neighbour’s compound.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the man’s death remain unclear, and inquiries are underway to establish the cause of death.
The body was processed at the scene pending removal for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
In Nakuru West Sub-County, police have launched investigations after an amputated human leg was found abandoned in a riverbed in the Kaptembwo area on Thursday morning.
The discovery was reported by a resident of Osieko, who alerted police after spotting the body part lying in the riverbed.
Police officers visited the scene and confirmed the recovery of an amputated left leg wrapped in a bandage.
The scene was documented before the body part was taken to Kwa Jack Mortuary, where it will be preserved pending identification and disposal.
Police have launched investigations to establish the origin of the amputated limb and the circumstances under which it was abandoned. No arrests have been made.
