Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o on Friday joined the Luo Council of Elders in preparations for this year’s Piny Luo Festival.

The organisers announced that the annual cultural celebration will be held in Kisumu from December 14 to 16, 2026.

Nyong’o met members of the Luo Council of Elders, led by Ker Odungi Randa, at the Kisumu Museum as preparations for the festival gathered pace.

The meeting brought together elders and other stakeholders to discuss the upcoming cultural event, which is expected to bring together members of the Luo community from Kenya and other parts of East Africa.

The Piny Luo Festival is an annual celebration that seeks to showcase the community’s cultural heritage through traditional music, customs and other cultural expressions.

It also provides a platforms for members of the Luo community to interact and strengthen their bonds.

The announcement of the December dates sets the stage for a series of activities leading up to the festival, with organisers expected to unveil more details on the programme and activities as preparations continue.

Nyong’o’s participation alongside the Luo Council of Elders places Kisumu at the centre of preparations for the festival, as organisers work towards delivering the 2026 edition and positioning the event as an important platform for cultural preservation, community unity and economic activity.
