Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has arrived in Entebbe, Uganda, to represent President William Ruto at the Second Extraordinary Summit of the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

Kindiki was received by Uganda's Deputy President, Jessica Alupo, Kenya's High Commissioner to Uganda, Ababu Namwamba, and other Ugandan government officials.

The summit brings together Heads of State and Government from troop-contributing countries, including Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and Uganda, as well as senior representatives from the African Union, the United Nations and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

Regional leaders are expected to review the progress of AUSSOM, assess the security situation in Somalia and discuss measures to strengthen the mission's operations.

Kenya remains one of the key troop-contributing countries to AUSSOM, which became operational on January 1, 2025, with a mandate to support Somalia in combating Al-Shabaab, protecting civilians and strengthening Somali security institutions.
