The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has warned members of the public against engaging with fake social media accounts impersonating the authority, urging Kenyans to use only its verified communication channels when seeking services or making enquiries.

In a public scam alert issued on Friday, the authority said fraudsters have created fake accounts on various social media platforms while masquerading as NTSA.

The authority cautioned members of the public against sharing personal information with individuals operating the accounts, saying they are not affiliated with NTSA.

"NTSA cautions members of the public from engaging fake TikTok, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts impersonating the Authority," the statement said.

The authority said it communicates only through its official digital platforms and customer service channels, urging the public to verify any account claiming to represent NTSA before engaging with it.

It advised Kenyans wishing to make enquiries, seek services or lodge complaints to use official communication channels, including the NTSA website and its designated customer care contacts.

"The Authority communicates ONLY through its official channels: X @ntsa_kenya, the NTSA website (www.ntsa.go.ke), Facebook (NTSA KENYA), email ([email protected]), WhatsApp (NTSA), customer care lines 0709932000/300, SMS 22847_NTSA and YouTube (NTSA_Kenya)," the authority said.

The authority further urged members of the public to avoid sharing sensitive personal information such as identification details, passwords or financial information with unknown individuals online.

According to NTSA, anyone who encounters suspicious accounts purporting to represent the authority should avoid interacting with them, block the accounts and report them to the relevant social media platform.

The warning comes amid increasing cases of online impersonation targeting government agencies, with fraudsters using fake accounts to deceive members of the public into sharing personal information or making payments for non-existent services.

Government agencies have repeatedly urged Kenyans to verify official communication channels before responding to online messages or requests for personal information.

NTSA said members of the public can also raise complaints or make enquiries through its official website and customer service platforms.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to protecting road users and ensuring that members of the public access authentic information through verified channels.
