Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has defended President William Ruto’s State of the Nation Address, dismissing criticism by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna that the speech focused on development while overlooking democracy, human rights, the rule of law, and social justice. Murkomen said a government committed to protecting the right to life and other fundamental freedoms cannot ignore development and the provision of basic services. He argued that economic progress and human rights are complementary and must be advanced together.
