Cameroonian winger Sally Ali Yipoh/HANDOUTNewly promoted SportPesa League side 3K FC have stepped up preparations for their maiden top-flight campaign after signing Cameroonian winger Sally Ali Yipoh and midfielder Kevin Wanyonyi.
Yipoh joins the Embu-based club from Rwanda Premier League side Gorilla FC, while Wanyonyi arrives from newly promoted National Super League outfit Kiminini Combined.
The Cameroonian enjoyed an impressive campaign in Rwanda last season, making 23 league appearances, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists.
Head coach Nicodemus Omasete believes Yipoh will add quality and versatility to his attacking options. “Sally is very good in one-versus-one situations. He has top football understanding. You can tell he’s had a proper foundation. He has an eye for goal, meaning we can play him across all attacking positions. He’s an exciting talent,” said Omasete.
The coach revealed the winger had spent the past two weeks training with the squad before completing his move. “He is going to be immense for us this season. We are very happy to have him join us. He is very humble and intelligent. The fans will see for themselves what a gem we have,” he added.
Yipoh said he was delighted to begin a new chapter in Kenya and is eager to help the club make a strong impression in its first-ever top-flight season. “This is my first time in Kenya. It’s a beautiful and unique country. I have been welcomed, and everyone around me is very friendly. The food, of course, is strange, but I’ll get used to it soon enough,” he said.
“I am here for work. This is not my first time out of Cameroon, so I’m used to staying abroad and different cultures. I can’t wait for the league to start and try my best to make our fans happy.”
3K FC have retained the core of the squad that secured promotion, releasing only Felix Ekai, Alex Jima and Harrison Mwadike. Omasete said maintaining continuity was a key part of the club’s strategy.
“Towards the end of last season, we decided we would keep 90 per cent of the squad that got us promoted to the SportPesa League. We had about 26 players, and we have retained 22 players,” he said.
Meanwhile, several SportPesa League clubs, including big-spending Nairobi United, are reportedly interested in signing influential midfielder Mark Kithome.
