Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was on Thursday crowned a Luo elder and installed as the leader of the Nairobi Chapter of the Luo Council of Elders during a traditional ceremony held in Nairobi.

According to Owino, the ceremony brought together the Luo Council of Elders and representatives drawn from all 85 wards of Nairobi County, who endorsed his engagement with other communities as he pursues his bid for the Nairobi governorship.

"The elders have set me free to develop friendship and seek the support of all the other communities in this city ahead of the gubernatorial race," Babu Owino said.

Following the installation, Owino pledged to use his new role to promote harmony, national cohesion and integration in Nairobi.

"I promise to do all it takes to make use of this cardinal trust to restore the central role of the Luo people in promoting harmony, national cohesion and integration of our city towards meaningful development and service delivery for the people of Nairobi," he said.
