Wiper Party has dismissed reports circulating on social media and in sections of the mainstream media claiming that party leader Kalonzo Musyoka recently held talks with President William Ruto over a possible political deal ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Nairobi on Thursday, Senate Deputy Minority Leader and Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua described the claims as false and claimed those behind them are attempting to create divisions within the opposition.
"For the record, my party leader has not had any such meeting with the President. Let me also clarify for the benefit of the country that the two have not had any talks whatsoever about working together in the next General Election," Wambua said.
He urged Kenyans to disregard the reports, saying they were part of a misinformation campaign aimed at weakening what he described as the united alternative government.
"The information out there about the two must be treated with the impunity that it deserves. It is fake news. It is deep fake. It is misinformation. It is disinformation," he said.
According to Wambua, those spreading the reports were working to destabilise the opposition coalition but would not succeed.
"Those peddling these rumours are working round the clock to try and destabilise the united alternative government. They can try as much as they want, but they will fail miserably," he said.
The Kitui senator said he was with Kalonzo on the day the alleged meeting was said to have taken place, adding that the Wiper leader attended scheduled engagements in Nairobi before proceeding to another meeting at his residence.
"Laughably, on the day that the rumour mills were putting out their deep fake news about a meeting happening between the two, I was personally attending a meeting between my party leader and senior editors at a Nairobi hotel. After that meeting in town, I accompanied the party leader to yet another meeting at his home," Wambua said.
"If President Ruto met a man called Kalonzo at State House or wherever, then that man was not the Wiper Party leader."
Wambua maintained that Kalonzo remains committed to working with other opposition leaders to field a single presidential candidate against President Ruto in the 2027 elections.
"Additionally, Kalonzo remains fully committed to being at the forefront in uniting Kenyans from all walks of life and in all corners of the country to defeat President Ruto on the ballot in the next elections," he said.
He added that the Wiper leader remained committed to working with leaders in the united alternative government to agree on one candidate to challenge Ruto in the presidential election scheduled for August 10, 2027.
Wambua also recalled that during the Wiper Party National Delegates Conference held at Uhuru Park on October 10, 2025, delegates unanimously endorsed Kalonzo as the party's presidential candidate.
He said the conference also authorised the party leader to engage like-minded leaders from other political formations in pursuit of a united opposition ahead of the next General Election.
The senator further dismissed a video clip circulating online that purported to show a recent meeting between Kalonzo and President Ruto, saying it had been taken out of context.
According to Wambua, the footage was recorded on March 4, 2024, when Kalonzo, in his capacity as co-chair of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO), joined other members of the team in presenting the committee's report to President Ruto in line with the committee's terms of reference.
He urged Wiper supporters, opposition leaders and Kenyans to ignore the reports, insisting there had been no discussions between Kalonzo and President Ruto regarding any political arrangement for the 2027 elections.
