President William Ruto on Wednesday bid farewell to outgoing Cyprus High Commissioner to Kenya Savvas Vladimirou at State House, Nairobi, as the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties between the two countries.

Ruto said Kenya and Cyprus enjoy long-standing historical relations that have continued to grow over the years through cooperation in various sectors.

He thanked Vladimirou for his contribution to deepening bilateral ties during his tour of duty and acknowledged Cyprus' continued support for Kenya, particularly in the health and education sectors.

The President also extended an invitation to the President of Cyprus to visit Kenya, saying the visit would provide an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting comes days after Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi also held farewell talks with Vladimirou, where they reviewed progress in Kenya-Cyprus relations and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation.

During that meeting, Mudavadi said Kenya and Cyprus were working towards concluding agreements in agriculture, air transport, mutual recognition of academic qualifications and the elimination of double taxation.

The two countries also identified new areas of cooperation, including the blue economy, pharmaceuticals and trade, aimed at boosting investment, business and economic opportunities.

Mudavadi welcomed an invitation to visit Cyprus and said the two countries would continue engaging, including on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, to strengthen their partnership.
