Led by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, the leaders said the region has little to gain by remaining in the opposition, arguing that working closely with the national government would accelerate development.
Speaking during the Women's Economic Empowerment Programme at Kee Market in Kee Ward, Kaiti Constituency, Mutuse urged residents to embrace UDA, saying the region has remained in the opposition for many years while missing opportunities associated with being aligned with the national government.
Also present at the event was former Kibwezi MP Philip Kiloki.
The MP called on residents to move away from what he described as tribal politics and instead embrace issue-based leadership focused on development and service delivery.
Mutuse further appealed to the people of Ukambani to support President William Ruto's re-election bid, arguing that a united region working with the national government would be better positioned to attract development projects, create economic opportunities and improve livelihoods.
Mutuse urged residents of the Ukambani region to abandon what he termed "tribal politics" and embrace national political parties, saying the move would enhance the region's chances of securing a greater share of government development projects.
He called on area leaders and residents to align themselves with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The lawmaker argued that years of remaining in the opposition had denied the region opportunities for accelerated development and urged residents to rethink their political choices.
“We have been in the Opposition for many years. We have been in the opposition because of embracing band politics. We must now change how we do politics. We must leave tribal parties and join those that have a national appeal,” Mutuse said.

“We must join UDA and work with Ruto and come 2027, re-elect him as President,” he said.
Mutuse maintained that supporting the ruling party would ensure that Ukambani receives what he described as its fair share of national resources.
“So that as taxpayers we also get a fair share of development like other regions in the country,” he said.
The MP called for unity among residents, saying collective support for the government's agenda would help unlock key development projects across the region.
“We must walk together in that journey. We want affordable housing, safe water, improved agriculture and markets,” Mutuse told the gathering.
