Detectives in Homa Bay county are investigating the murder of a 65-year-old woman who was found dead inside her bedroom with her hands tied.
The deceased, identified as Roselida Akeyo Ojowi, was found dead at her home in Agoro Village, Nyalenda Sublocation, Rachuonyo South Subcounty, on Saturday afternoon.
According to police, the incident was reported after a relative alerted authorities.
Investigators found that the deceased’s hands had been tied with a nylon piece of cloth, which had also been wrapped around her neck, suggesting she may have been strangled.
Her body was discovered by her grandson, who had gone to assist her with household chores.
Police said there were no visible external injuries on the body.
The scene was processed by crime scene investigators before the body was moved to Rachuonyo Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Detectives have launched investigations to establish the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible.
Elsewhere, police in Bungoma county launched investigations into the death of a 73-year-old man whose body was found in a sugarcane plantation in Bumula Subcounty.
The deceased, identified as Boniface Bongita Wabuke, was found lying on his side in a sugarcane field at Sikinga Village, Mabusi Sublocation, on Saturday morning.
Police officers visited the scene and found the body with no visible external injuries.
Preliminary investigations established that Wabuke was last seen alive during the day on Thursday, July 23.
His body was discovered at about 9 am on Saturday by children who were playing in a nearby field.
Detectives processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
A post-mortem examination is expected to establish the cause of death as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a different incident, a 30-year-old mentally challenged man was allegedly speared to death by two miraa guards in Meru county after being accused of stealing miraa from a farm two months ago.
The incident occurred in Mwerene Village, Igembe Central Subcounty.
Police responded to reports of a body lying along a village road.
The deceased was identified as Peter Mururu, whose family said he had a mental disability.
Preliminary investigations indicate that two men who were guarding a miraa farm allegedly confronted Mururu over claims that he had stolen miraa from the farm about two months earlier.
Police said the two suspects, who were reportedly armed with a panga and a spear, attacked the man.
He sustained a deep spear wound to his right thigh and bled to death at the scene.
Crime scene investigators processed the area before the body was moved to Nyambene Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations into the killing and are pursuing the suspects as they prepare to institute appropriate legal action.
