Several high-profile corruption and public asset recovery cases are scheduled to come before courts across the country this week in matters involving former governors, senior public officials, Members of County Assembly and other individuals.
The cases, set to be heard between July 27 and July 31, include judgments, rulings, hearings and mentions involving alleged unexplained wealth, recovery of public funds and land, procurement irregularities, money laundering, abuse of office and fraudulent acquisition of public property.
The week will culminate on Friday with judgment in a suit against Catherine Mumma, a former joint secretary of the legal task force on the HIV/AIDS pandemic, over the recovery of Sh903,000 allegedly received irregularly as allowances from the National AIDS Control Council.
The judgment will be delivered at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.
On the same day, the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court will hear a mention involving Bomet Governor Hillary Kipng'eno Barchok and two others, who face charges including conflict of interest, acquisition and use of proceeds of crime and money laundering linked to an alleged Sh2.7 million benefit from companies that traded with the county.
Also scheduled for mention on Friday is a case involving Sammy Kipngetich Kirui and 13 others over the alleged irregular purchase of land worth Sh283 million for cemetery use by the former City Council of Nairobi.
On Wednesday, the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court is expected to deliver two rulings.
One concerns a suit seeking recovery of unexplained wealth amounting to Sh180 million involving David Isika Kinyae and others.
The second ruling involves former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and 13 others in a suit seeking recovery of Sh58 million allegedly embezzled from the former City Council of Nairobi.
The same court will also hear a suit seeking recovery of Sh800 million allegedly paid through an overvalued tender for the supply of 100 portable medical clinics to the Ministry of Health.
Other matters scheduled for Wednesday include a hearing involving Arnold Karani Njiru and five others over allegations relating to the embezzlement of Sh19.2 million from a Laikipia East NG-CDF ghost project.
Several mentions are also listed for the day, including cases involving Ben Gethi and 14 others over Sh6.1 billion linked to alleged fraudulent NYS vouchers, Ahmedidle Adam Abdi and others over recovery of Sh253.3 million, Abdi Ibrahim Daar and others over recovery of Sh51.5 million, and Jecinter Adoyo Hezron over recovery of Sh15.2 million.
On Thursday, former Murang'a Governor Francis Mwangi wa Iria and eight others are scheduled to appear for hearing over charges relating to an alleged Sh351.1 million media contract awarded by the county government.
Hearings are also expected in suits involving Meshack Aluvaala and Szumbah Mwanaongoro over recovery of public land in Nakuru valued at Sh40 million each and reserved for the Ministry of Education.
Former Kenya Wildlife Service officers William Waweru Maina and David Kaindi Mutwuiwa will also appear for hearing over alleged procurement irregularities involving uniforms worth Sh11.5 million.
Other Thursday matters include hearings involving Amos Majisu Shidzugane over alleged fraudulent acquisition of public property worth Sh11.5 million through forged academic certificates and Gondi Achiro Noberts trading as Firmline Company and others over alleged embezzlement of Kenya School of Law funds.
The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court will also mention cases involving Kirimi Peter Kaberia and 12 others over recovery of Sh330.5 million, Michael Auka and another over alleged unexplained assets worth Sh342.8 million, Engineer Peter Mangiti and 17 others over recovery of Sh45.1 million, and Sarah Muthoni Muraa over recovery of Sh11.7 million.
On Monday, the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court will hear a suit seeking recovery of Sh27.8 million allegedly acquired from the Homa Bay County Assembly by Bob Kephas Otieno and five others through imprest payments.
The Milimani Environment and Land Court will also hear a land recovery suit involving Margaret Njoki Njuguna.
On Tuesday, Abdi Ibrahim Daar, MCA for Balambala, and four others are scheduled for hearing at the Garissa Law Courts over allegations relating to irregular payments amounting to Sh51 million by the Garissa County Government.
The same day, former Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons Benjamin Obuya Njoga and 12 others will appear before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for mention over charges including abuse of office, fraudulent acquisition of public property and money laundering linked to alleged payments worth Sh301.9 million for goods allegedly not supplied to the State Department for Correctional Services.
Meanwhile, Urbanus Wambua and nine others are expected in court over a suit seeking recovery of Sh531.3 million, while Johnson Jackson Githaka and John Faustin Kinyua will appear before the Makadara Law Court over charges relating to the alleged illegal acquisition of public property worth Sh12.1 million.
