New data released from licensed brokers to the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) has triggered widespread discussion online after revealing that Kenyan retail forex traders recorded a net loss of KSh 5.87 billion in 2025.

According to the figures, traders made total losses of KSh 7.12 billion against KSh 1.25 billion in winnings. The report further showed that 77.58 per cent of the 152,110 trading accounts ended the year in losses. Although this marked an improvement from 90.91 per cent recorded in 2024, the overall losses increased by 46.6 per cent, with fewer traders placing larger trades. HF Markets and Exness accounted for the highest loss figures.
