Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi wants Siaya county residents to kick out elected leaders who have failed to champion development in the region.
According to Wandayi, the county can no longer entertain ‘trial and error’ politicians who are bent on pulling the devolved region backwards as the rest of the country develops.
He was speaking at Karapul on the outskirts of Siaya town on Saturday during the funeral of the late Mzee Esau Oyiro Ogeya.
“Politics is the foundation for development, and we cannot afford the trial-and-error games,” he said, adding that he will be at the forefront to ensure that non-performers go home during the next general elections.
On development, Wandayi said that the government has set aside Sh2.2 billion for rural electrification in Siaya county.
The amount, he said, will be used to electrify more than 25 villages in the area.
He called on the public to support the broad-based government under President William Ruto, adding that apart from electrification, the government has initiated more development projects in different sectors of the economy.
“We had roads that had stagnated for years, and now they are being tarmacked,” he said, adding, “We also had the county referral hospital in bad condition, and now it is being refurbished and expanded to level five status by the national government.”
