Embakasi South parliamentary aspirant Jared Oundo has welcomed the growing political interest surrounding Raila Odinga Jnr and his possible candidature for the constituency's parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
In a statement, Oundo described the development as a positive step for democracy, saying leadership contests should be defined by ideas, competence and service to the people rather than political entitlement or family legacy.
"Embakasi South belongs to its people. Every Kenyan who is qualified and committed to serving the wananchi has a constitutional right to seek elective office. I welcome Raila Odinga Jnr and any other aspirants who are prepared to subject themselves to the democratic will of the people," said Oundo.
He said residents deserve an issue-based campaign focused on addressing the challenges facing the constituency, adding that the 2027 election should allow voters to assess leaders based on their vision, track record and commitment to public service.
According to Oundo, his manifesto prioritises economic empowerment through support for small and medium enterprises, access to affordable financing for entrepreneurs and sustainable job creation initiatives for the youth.
He said it also focuses on education, youth and women empowerment, healthcare, infrastructure development, public service delivery, transparency, accountability and participatory leadership.
"Leadership is earned through service. My commitment is to every resident of Embakasi South—the youth seeking employment opportunities, the entrepreneur striving to grow a business, the student pursuing quality education, the parent seeking better healthcare, and the family aspiring for a safer and more prosperous future," Oundo stated.
He said healthy political competition strengthens democratic institutions and should be conducted with civility, respect and a shared commitment to national unity.
"As we prepare for the 2027 General Election, I call upon all aspirants and their supporters to embrace peaceful, issue-based politics. Embakasi South deserves leaders who inspire hope, champion development, and place the interests of wananchi above personal or political ambitions."
