Crime sceneWhat began as a late-night visit to a lover ended in tragedy after a Kisii man was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people, with his family arriving too late to save him despite receiving a desperate midnight alert.
Detectives are investigating the killing of James Manyega Onchoka, who is said to have left his home in Gesero on Sunday night to visit a woman at Nyagwekoa Village in Kisii South Sub-County.
According to police, shortly after midnight, Onchoka's family received a phone call from a local community leader informing them that he was under attack by a group of people. The caller directed them to the scene where the assault was reportedly taking place.
The family rushed to the location in a bid to rescue him but could not find him despite searching the area.
Their worst fears were confirmed at around 10am on Monday when members of the public informed them that a body had been found in Nyagwekoa Village. They rushed to the scene and identified the deceased as Onchoka.
Police processed the scene and launched investigations into the murder. Detectives are pursuing the attackers as they seek to establish the motive behind the killing and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a separate incident, police in Nyandarua County have launched a manhunt for two suspects accused of killing their 32-year-old cousin in North Kinangop Sub-County.
The victim, Simon Gathirua Njenga, was allegedly beaten with rungus and fists during the attack.
His 67-year-old mother told investigators that the attackers were relatives of the deceased and fled immediately after the assault.
Police found the body lying in the family compound before crime scene investigators documented the scene. The body was later moved to Engineer Level Four Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Detectives are continuing efforts to trace and arrest the two suspects.
Meanwhile, in Migori County, police have arrested a man accused of fatally assaulting a 43-year-old man who succumbed to his injuries nearly two weeks after the attack.
The victim, Dancan Ochieng Sadia, died on Sunday while receiving treatment at Migori County Referral Hospital after suffering severe head injuries during an alleged assault on July 8.
Police said the incident was formally reported on Monday by the deceased's wife, who told officers that her husband had identified his alleged attacker before his death.
Investigators established that the assault had never been reported when it occurred because neither the victim nor his family had lodged a complaint with police.
Acting on information that the suspect was at his rented house in the Oruba area of Suna West Sub-County, detectives mounted an operation and arrested him.
The suspect is being held at Oruba Police Station and is expected to be arraigned as investigations continue.
The body of the deceased was moved to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police said murder investigations are ongoing in all three incidents.
