Kenyan content creator Lydia Wanjiru has sparked widespread debate after sharing a series of Instagram Stories in which she questioned traditional expectations around relationships, marriage and parenthood
In the posts, Wanjiru argued that many women continue to bear the burden of failed relationships while men often escape accountability.

She also criticised what she described as societal expectations placed on women and said she believes many women should reconsider having children with men who later abandon their families.
"To heal the world, si muache kuzalia hawa wanaume. Ndio tucut the cycle of these bad fruits. These men will just abandon you," Lydia Wanjiru said on her Instagram Stories.
Criticism of traditional gender roles
Wanjiru went on to claim that many men remain frustrated because, in her view, women are no longer confined to traditional domestic roles.
According to the content creator, women today have more independence than previous generations, something she suggested has changed relationship dynamics.

"Men are so angry, and their plan to imprison women didn't work. They hated women as slaves in terms of getting married, getting kids, and staying at home," she said.

"Assume I'm robbing him"
In another part of her message, Wanjiru addressed assumptions often made whenever she is seen in public with a man.
She said she finds it frustrating that people immediately conclude they are romantically involved.
"If you see me with a man, please first assume I'm robbing him, then dating!" Wanjiru said.
She added:
"Sometimes I feel so disgusted whenever I'm seen with a man out there and people just assume we're dating. Can you just assume I'm robbing the guy?"
The statement became one of the most widely shared parts of her Instagram Stories, drawing mixed reactions across social media.
