Kiambu government has, for the first time, collected Sh6.5 billion in Own Source Revenue (2025-2026), the highest amount ever realised since the establishment of devolution in 2013.
Speaking during the launch of the amounts on Wednesday, the Governor Kimani Wamatangi said the collection has been on an upward trajectory since he assumed office in 2022, adding that the increment was realised without increasing existing fees and levies.
Finance executive Nancy Kirumba said the increase in collection was a result of the automation of county revenue collection systems.
The growth has placed Kiambu among the leading counties in revenue mobilisation and strengthened its ability to finance development programmes without relying entirely on allocations from the National Treasury.
So far, the county has built 512 new ECDE centres that rival private academies, 32 new level four and level three hospitals, 26 new markets and thousands of modern stalls, installed 12,000 solar streetlights and supported over 750,000 farmers with farm inputs.
