Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has officially launched the National Economic Development Party (NEDP) grassroots campaign in Nairobi.

The move signals the start of the party's push to build support ahead of the 2027 general election.


Sonko kicked off the campaign with a tour of Mugumoini Ward in Lang'ata Constituency on Monday, accompanied by the party's Lang'ata parliamentary aspirant Faiza Omar and Mugumoini Ward aspirant Vincent Muirigi, popularly known as "Generali".

The trio engaged residents in Southlands, where they outlined the party's vision for Lang'ata and sought to rally support at the grassroots.

Declaring that the campaign season had officially begun, Sonko said the visit marked the start of a wider mobilisation drive aimed at strengthening the NEDP's presence across Nairobi.

He thanked Mugumoini residents for what he described as a warm reception, saying their support reflected growing confidence in the party's agenda.

"Our journey starts with the people. Together, we will build a better Nairobi," Sonko said.

The former governor said similar engagements would be rolled out across the capital as the party positions itself for the next General Election.

The Mugumoini tour is expected to be the first in a series of ward-level campaigns as political parties intensify grassroots mobilisation and position their candidates ahead of the polls.
