Runyenjes MP Eric Karemba has urged the government to reconsider the proposed 0.8% export levy on Kenyan tea, warning it will burden farmers and reduce its competitiveness in global markets. Speaking at a church service in Embu, Karemba asked Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to intervene and have the levy dropped. However, Agriculture officials have defend the measure, saying it will fund research, marketing, and modernization of the tea sector.
