East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega on Tuesday recorded a statement with police at Ol Jororok Police Station in Nyandarua over an alleged armed attack on him.
Speaking to the media, Kega insisted that he will not be intimidated ahead of the Ol Kalou by-election.
"If you think that you will make us fear because of Ol Kalou, you are mistaken. We will protect our votes. We are not leaving here in Ol Kalou," he said.
Kega also dismissed claims surrounding the number plates of his vehicle, explaining that they were deliberately removed by his lawyer after the incident.
"My vehicle plates were removed because when it was leaving the scene of the crime, my lawyer removed them so that I am not followed, but the plates are there," he said.
The EALA MP had on Monday claimed he narrowly escaped an armed attack after unknown gunmen allegedly chased his vehicle and opened fire.
In a video shared on social media, the former Kieni MP said he and members of his team fled the alleged attackers and sought refuge in a nearby house.
"Kenyans, you can see I'm under attack. I have been chased and they pointed guns at me and we have managed to escape. They have sprayed my vehicle. I'm only alive by the grace of God. We are not going to relent in the fight," Kega said in the video.
He added that they had taken temporary shelter as they assessed the situation.
"We are temporarily safe in this house," he said.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack, which comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the Ol Kalou by-election.
