Health experts have warned that myths surrounding childhood diabetes are contributing to delayed diagnosis and avoidable deaths. Some families still believe the disease is caused by eating too much sugar, is contagious or can be treated without insulin. Research conducted by specialists from Gertrude's Children's Hospital and Aga Khan University Hospital found that more than half of children diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in Nairobi reached hospital in critical condition, highlighting the need for greater public awareness and early screening.
