Kenyan content creator and actress Morin has shared the story behind her popular "Mama Morin" character, revealing that the role is largely inspired by her own mother.

Speaking on the Alex Mwakideu TV Podcast, Morin explained that everything from the character's dressing to her mannerisms comes from observing her mother over the years.

"These are my mother's clothes. She's always like this."

According to the actress, wearing her mother's clothes helps make the character feel natural and believable.

'My mother's character is very authentic'

Morin said the personality audiences see in her comedy skits is rooted in real life.
She explained that her mother's behaviour became the foundation of Mama Morin, although she occasionally borrows traits from other African mothers to make the content more entertaining.

"Yeah, this is my mother's character. Ndiyo maana unapata iko very authentic."

She added:
"Wakati mwingine I try to make it funny and borrow character from African mothers."
The creator noted that while her content is designed to entertain, she also wants it to leave viewers with meaningful lessons.

Using comedy to pass a message

Beyond the humour, Morin said she intentionally creates content that speaks to young people.
She explained that every skit is crafted with a message in mind, hoping that audiences can laugh while also reflecting on everyday life and family relationships.
Rather than producing comedy purely for entertainment, she aims to blend humour with relatable experiences that resonate across different generations.

From school drama to the national stage

Morin also reflected on where her acting journey began, saying her passion for performance started long before social media.
She revealed that she first discovered her talent while in secondary school.
"I started acting nikiwa high school drama, Form Three."

She continued:
"Nikaingia Chipukizi Comedy Club, hapo ndiyo nili-create character ya Mama."
The role would later become the foundation of her online career.

A character born during the pandemic

Morin revealed that she officially introduced Mama Morin in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As lockdowns pushed many creators towards digital platforms, she began producing short comedy videos featuring the character.

"I started as Mama Morin in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic."

Since then, the character has grown into one of the recognisable comedy personas on Kenyan social media, earning her a loyal following through relatable family humour and everyday African experiences.

Dreaming beyond Kenya

Despite her success online, Morin said her ambitions extend far beyond social media.
She disclosed that her long-term goal is to act in Hollywood, describing it as the dream she continues to work towards.
