Eliud Kipchoge reached out to the independent artisan workshop Artisans de Genève to personalise his luxury timepiece as a tribute to his athletic career. The project was named 'Feather'.
Throughout the process, the quest for extreme lightness became the central guiding thread. The finished timepiece weighs just 57 grams.
A Pursuit of Extreme Lightness
According to official information from the Artisans de Genève website, Eliud Kipchoge wanted a watch that matched the rigorous discipline of elite marathon training.
As the first athlete to break the two-hour marathon barrier, he wanted the timepiece to embody a piece of his history.
The ambition required precision watchmaking to strip away unnecessary mass. Artisans de Genève re-engineered the watch to combine durability with extreme lightness.

“As the first man to break the mythic two-hour barrier in a marathon, Eliud Kipchoge wanted this timepiece to embody a piece of his history. Throughout our exchanges, the quest for lightness naturally became the guiding thread, culminating in a timepiece weighing just 57 grams,” the information revealed.
For Kipchoge, pushing beyond normal limits was the core motivation for the project. The watch reflects his personal philosophy of striving for perfection second after second.
Engineering the 57-Gram Timepiece
The customisation project started with Kipchoge's personal Rolex Daytona timepiece. To hit the 57-gram target, watchmakers replaced the original middle case with a bespoke housing.
The new case was crafted from Titalum, a high-performance alloy of titanium and aluminium. This alloy delivers strength while significantly reducing overall weight.
Watchmakers also modified the movement to save space and mass. The original Caliber 4130 movement was skeletonised and re-engineered for exclusive manual winding.
The dial architecture features transparent sapphire crystal to expose the skeletonised movement. The bezel insert is also crafted from pure sapphire crystal.
A central chronograph hand was shaped like a lightning bolt as a visual tribute to speed. The crown is made of polished steel featuring a green line detail.
Rooted in Kaptagat and Kenya
Beyond physical lightness, Kipchoge insisted that the watch celebrate his Kenyan roots. The colour palette directly mirrors the landscape and flag of Kenya.
“He was also eager to celebrate his roots: the warm colors and flag of Kenya, fundamental inspirations that guided the entire customization process,” Artisans de Genève added.
Deep red details evoke the red soil of his home training ground in Kaptagat. Green sub-dials symbolise lush vegetation, while white elements recall the bright light on Mount Kenya's peaks.

The sub-dials feature Super-LumiNova with green emission for legibility in the dark. Rhodium hands are finished with polished and sandblasted surfaces alongside red paint details.
"When I run on the red soil of Kaptagat at dawn, I feel an immense strength. These lands where I grew up inspire me and push me to go ever further. This watch pays tribute to the determination that defined my journey and reminds me, second after second, where I come from,” Eliud Kipchoge said.
