Kenyan rapper Breederhas sparked debate after questioning the standard of officiating at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, following Egypt’s dramatic 3-2 defeat to defending champions Argentina in the Round of 16.
The musician took to his Instagram Stories shortly after the match, expressing frustration over the outcome and suggesting that several African teams’ performances should be investigated.
“With the exception of Morocco, all these African teams need to be investigated for match fixing! VAR and the officiating have been dubious as well, a fixed tournament. Shameful,” Breeder wrote.
His comments came after Egypt surrendered a two-goal lead in the closing stages of Tuesday’s match in Atlanta.

Egypt led 2-0 with just over 10 minutes remaining before Argentina mounted a remarkable comeback, scoring three times to book a place in the quarter-finals.
The match was also overshadowed by controversial refereeing decisions, including a disallowed Egyptian goal after a VAR review and penalty appeals that were waved away. Egypt coach Hossam Hassan later criticised the officiating, saying key decisions had gone against his side.
The breederdid not provide evidence to support his allegations of match-fixing, and there has been no indication from FIFA that any matches involving African teams are under investigation.
African teams bow out.
The 2026 tournament saw a record number of African nations reach the expanded knockout stage, reflecting the continent’s growing competitiveness on the global stage. However, many of those teams were unable to progress beyond the Round of 32.
South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Algeria, DR Congo, Cape Verde and Ivory Coast were all eliminated during the first knockout round, leaving Morocco and Egypt as Africa’s remaining representatives.
Egypt then exited in the Round of 16 after their defeat to Argentina, while Morocco progressed to the quarter-finals to keep African hopes alive.
Egypt’s campaign nevertheless marked a historic achievement. The Pharaohs reached the knockout stages for the first time in their history and also recorded their first-ever FIFA World Cup knockout victory after defeating Australia on penalties in the Round of 32.

Breeder’s remarks add to the wider discussion surrounding the use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system at this year’s tournament.
Several players, coaches and supporters have questioned decisions made during knockout matches, although FIFA has maintained that VAR is intended to reduce clear and obvious errors by match officials.
Following Egypt’s elimination, head coach Hossam Hassan publicly criticised the refereeing, arguing that crucial moments changed the course of the match after his team had established a commanding lead.
